Tessuti Battuti Vase

This superb vase designed in 1940 by Carlo Scarpa is part of a numbered edition. The mouth-blown glass is handmade incorporating different techniques to obtain a striking visual effect evoking the folds of pleated fabric. Two-tone brick red watermark stripes follow the sinuous profile of the vase with glass rods ("canne") encased in an opaque overlay using the "filigrana" method and finished in "battuto" to confer a textured surface. Alternating light and dark coloured lines on shades of Coral, harmoniously following the guidelines produced by Carlo Scarpa. And reproduced by VENINI’s master glassblowers by using the skilful "Canne" technique and by finally grinding the glass: two truly unique creations.

Rotondo Pendant Light - Bold shades of Black blend together with the hues of Crystal or Tea of the sphere. They enclose it, surrounding it with thin and thick lines, alternating in a seemingly random fashion, like belts or laces. A fine interplay of transparencies gives a warm and sensual glow to light passing through the glass. Rotondo is exclusively available as a pendant light.

Venini renews its partnership with architect Peter Marino and unveils three lamp models at Boutique Damiani, Place Vendôme, with a special launch event on January 19th, 2020. Light and materiality are paramount for all of Peter Marino’s projects and this new collection was conceived as a contrast between transparency and the weight of material. The result - ROTONDO, CILINDRO and PARALLELO - three geometric lamps of Murano hand shaped glass which also present as substantial sculptural volumes.
Realized using the same techniques as Peter Marino’s ‘Black Belt’ vases (debuted in 2017), ROTONDO, CILINDRO and PARALLELO are made up of several transparent layers of glass that enclose the now iconic black or tea-coloured bands within. When a luminous object is inserted, the intersection of the bands crisscrossing the glass creates a play of light and shadow, occupied and empty spaces. Venini’s complex Murano glass-making techniques have been handed down for centuries and incorporates the “a sbruffo” (puffed) and “sommerso” (submerged) processes. Created by pulling and laying the bands hot on top of the hand shaped glass, the unique linear patterns wrapping the three lamp models recalls the aesthetic language of the architect.
Named for their physical shape, the models ROTONDO, CILINDRO and PARALLELO are designed to hang at varying heights. ‘Parallelo’ assumes a modular value as the lamp’s opposite parallel sides allow for graphic compositions in space. This collection expands from the single Rotondo model, first presented in Milan at the Euroluce 2019 international lighting exhibition. | Arteficius
